Positano

The next day we sail out of Amalfi. Our plans are to make a lunchtime stop in Positano, on our way around Pta. Campanella and anchor in Sorrento. It's a lovely day for sailing.

Speaking of lovely, I'm just happy to be here.

We've heard the Almalfi Coast is one of the prettiest places in the Med.

We'd have to agree. We also agree, that's one big hole.

I assume the Italian civil engineering folks have checked it out OK. I'm glad I'm not living above or below that spot.

We round Capo Sottile on our way to Positano.

Positano comes into view. We pulled into a mooring field and the ormeggiatori (boat boys) come out to meet us, help us pick up a mooring and offer us a ride into town. Very civilized.

The town is quite a sight.

Here is the dock where we are to be dropped off.

Time to check this place out.

As always, we enjoy walking through the narrow streets.

Jenée doesn't mind the shopping.

All the time, we keep climbing up ...

... And up

We pass this shop and see Jungle far below.

Here she is zoomed in.

The shop is closed, as most stores are for lunch. But I take a shot through the windows. What skill !

The roads wind their way through town and are hung onto the cliffs in many places. Mama Mia !

We take a photo for another couple and they reciprocate. "OK, level the camera out a bit before you shoot, okay not yet, wait, okay perfect." I guess we must have been leaning to our left. Nice job Ansel Adams.

We are getting up there. I didn't complain once about the long walk up. More like 2 or 3 times, and more of a whine than a complaint - that's much better.

A closer view of the church. It was worth the walk up.

No, we are not going up there. That's Mt. Faito, rising about 3400 feet (1136 meters) above sea level. Over a a half mile straight up.

We have further to walk up? Wait, do I spy an available cafe table?

Why, yes I did and yes it is. Lets sit here for a bit.

We can take some nice photos from here. We are looking down at another section of the same restaurant.

Including a spectacular view of the beach and the coastline.

I can rest a bit in the shade.

And eat this !! Prego !!

Time to walk off dessert and check out this view over another cafe.

Maybe we should see if they sell desserts in there?

Or maybe not.

We begin our long descent to the beach. I counted 45,567 steps, give or take 45,000.

That smile is completely forced.

Not so for my darling. She just finished a love story based in Positano, so she's in heaven. We both loved this place. Touristy, but very "kick back". To the right of Jenée, you can see the boat dock where we will catch our ride back to Jungle.

We hop back on board Jungle and head round Pta. Campanella in nasty wind and seas. We kept looking for places to duck out of the weather but none were to be had. So we slogged our way to Sorrento and with no chance of anchoring, we checked into the small marina. From here we will take a ferry to Capri in the morning. Buona Notte. (Good night)
