Ajaccio, Corsica to Beaulieu Sur Mer, France

We are up for some sailing! First we sail all day out of Bonafaccio to a little place further north in Corsica called Porto Pollo. We read it has mooring balls to pick up just outside the harbor. The are turns out to be too rolly, so we go further in and find this little shelter behind some rocks.

Speaking of rocks, we are just in time for cocktail hour. Jenée is having a Mojito.

Sun is setting on a long day.

The next morning we head out of our little spot on our way to Ajaccio.

We pull into the marina and find the one and only open slip. Weather is coming tonight and we want a little better protection. Turns out the marina was full and this happened to be an open private slip.

Oh we'll, out of there and into the anchorage - the next day mind you. Merci beau coup for the free slip!

Now we head into town to check out Ajaccio. It is the capital of Corsica and a charming little place.

It is also the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte (yes, he is Corsican). Naturally they have a statue of their favorite son dressed in a toga. Something he never wore. Further, he only visited Ajaccio once after he took over France, only to pick up his mother. Needles to say, This town has Napoleon everything.

And they have shops. I'm glad.

We walk out on the Napoleon plaza.

Check it out.

Walk by the fort.

And by this kooky broccoli kind of vegetable - we'll eat that thing.

The sun is setting and the admiral and I have decided to make a run for the southern coast of France as we have a (somewhat) favorable weather window. Adieu Ajaccio.

We make for a channel between these islands off the western edge of Corsica. The channel will save us a couple of hours.

The name of the island chain is Iles Sanguinaires.

Which translated means Bloody Islands.

Right you are! Lets make sure we are centered up on 'ole Bloody Islands.

Hey look at that, the 10 foot (3 meter) swells are breaking in the channel. Fun times.

It looks worse than it is, a few big waves and we are through.

After a bumpy but expected ride overnight we arrive the southern coast of France. We called in to the marina in Beaulieu Sur Mer and they squeezed us in their very crowded but calm marina. There were some pretty good waves out there. The fact is we are now in probably the toughest weather area of the Med, with the autumn Mistral winds blowing and ever changing weather.

But this is why we came - the food. Here is a little oyster soup, compliments of the chef.

This is and aubergine (eggplant) salad. Fantastic. The restaurant is Le 35.

And Jenée's rabbit entreė. Very nice. The owner was a cool guy who patiently took us through every course. In English.

Here are some early morning shots from Jenée.

Calm in the marina.

Looking into the village.

It all suits Katie just fine.

Sunrise.

We decide to get the bikes out for a little exercise. This place turns out to have a great walking/biking path on the waters edge.

Jenée likes it.

And why not.

I'm digging it. I know what you're thinking; nice ass. Merci.

We stop and take more pictures.

Looking towards our marina.

Plenty of places to check out.

The trail goes on and on.

Here is a nice home with their own mini marina.

Incredible homes. It turns out this is the most expensive real estate in all of France. There you go.

We really liked these flowers.

No idea what they are called. Oh we'll, more updates coming soon.
