Do you see what I see? New bikes! We finally broke down and picked up 2 standard sized multispeeds (I forget how many). But this will greatly enhance our touring. Jenée's is called an Elite, mine is a Skipper. Atta boy Jimmy.
And our first target is the castle at Navpaktos. Yessiree!
Whoa, that's a long steep climb.
Maybe we'll just take pictures from the town square. Very nice castle. We actually did pedal the 4 mile waterfront - tree shaded, beautiful. And lookie here, we even have a castle for a harbor. You gotta like that. That's me trying to figure out my new fancy kickstand - its operated by hand, not foot, as you know, most $&));@ kickstands are.
It's a small harbor filled with local fishing boats.
Nice Tavernas and bike paths line the harbor and streets. It's a happening little town.
Mostly set up for small, local boats. Too small for us.Very unique entrance to the harbor. It's about 600 years old.
Looking up to the castle.
Some of the town square around the ancient harbor.
The views a nice everywhere. We are now outside the harbor walls. Medieval cannons still protect the harbor.
A peek back in.
And a look back out.
There is the famous clock tower. I forget why it's famous.
Here is a nice shot through a cafe to the medieval harbor entrance.
On the way back to Jungle we spot this fresh water stream flowing into the sea. The geese and ducks spotted it first.
That there is a jellyfish. I jump in to do a little bottom cleaning and this white beast the size of my upper torso floats by. It was too murky to clean anyways so I hopped right out thank you.
We are on our way again and pass under the last bridge connecting mainland Greece to Pelaponnisis as we head west and into the Ionian Sea, also part of the Adriatic Sea.
We entered the Ionian and spent the night tucked behind a little island called Nisis Petalas. It was a windy night, but as always Jungle was well protected and comfortable. The next day we set course for Nisos Atokos and a famous bay called "One House Bay" - very scenic. What we realized is it is very popular and sailing season is still in full bloom in the Ionian Sea. The place was beautiful, but packed with too much "debris"' so that's us leaving the bay.
We reset course further north to the Island of Nisos Lefkas and Sivota Bay. Much better, more room and a nice little town.
A closer view looking northeast into the village.
Jungle has front row parking.
At the end of the dock is Jungle. Jenée is texting Garrett who is moving through the process on his application for San Diego Sheriff"'s Department.
Jenée is happy when she talks to her baby Garrett.
The next morning I get to reflect on the town reflection.
And that of the boats.
We sail out of Sivota Bay after having a great time.
We are sailing up Steno Meganisiou. This straight separates Nisos Lefkas from Nisis Meganisi
It's listed as one of the most beautiful passages in the Ionian Sea and it did not disappoint.
Lots of untouched little islands
Great views all around. Everywhere we look we see sailboats and mountains.
We made it to the harbor on Meganisi and Porto Spiglia. Much more to check out.
