We set out the next morning for the Sporades. These are a set of islands in the northwest portion of the Aegean Sea. They are promising to be some of our favorites. Very laid back atmosphere, they are more of a Greek vacation spot rather than a tourist destination. One more look back at Mt. Athos, 30 miles to the north.
What have we here?! We are motoring out of the harbor and Katie the wonder fluff is on deck. She usually runs and hides when we head out. The admiral is keeping her company.
This is a first for Jungle. What a day it is starting out to be.
Some 8 hours later we pull in to one of the Sporades northern Islands, Panayia. This is one of the islands making up the marine preserve. Panayia is unpopulated and has a great protected bay at it's northern coast.
We are just in time for sunset at Ormos Planitis.
The next morning we see a pen holding all these mountain goats. We watched them come and go sa they pleased, since basically they are mountain goats and were jumping in and out of the pen at will.
I'm still trying to figure all this out. That, along with why do I have this monkey cup?
The sun rises over a the mountain and lights up these neighboring boats.
We are sailing south again to the next island in the marine preserve, Alonnisos. We've heard many good reports on this island.
Alonnisos is most definitely populated as we found in this little cove of Rousoumi, near town.
And here is the capitol town of PatitÃri, on the harbor front. We debated about coming in here and tieing up, but we prefer anchorages. We'll stay put. Very nice town though. Kind of hippy-is hand eclectic. As mentioned, this island seems ais not so tourist-y (not so many T-shirts). We like it.
Checkout our short walk back to Jungle. We head down these stairs to the bay.
Always sitting pretty. Always good to come home.
Nice view of our boats parking lot. Jungle is just out of the picture on the right.
Back on board, I notice these young guys climbing a tree ...
... pretty high off the water...
... Geronimo ... ! Don't think they say that in Greece. More like; Malak-Ka! Don't ask.
One of our favorite times of the day. Afternoon cocktail hour.
Watching the sunset on the bay waterfront ...
The bayside cliffs ...
Another wonderful day! Next, we visit the old village (Chora)
