Nisos Alonnisos

We agree, this is our favorite Greek Island to date. It has all the beauty and is extremely laid back. We will check this place out more closely. Let's go!

First stop on a new day is the original main town - called a Chora (ore-ah). It's built as always on the tallest point to watch for the bad guys sailing in. So great views all around. This town was fully populated until a 1965 earthquake drove most everyone out.

Here is a remnant from 1965. Slowly but surely, the village has been built back up into shops, restaurants and homes. (many vacation homes).

Nice to see the comeback.

Great shops to check out inside and out.

This is a cliffside home under renovation.

So am I.

Much has been restored.

Great results.

Small streets and alleyways lead up and down.

Offering views everywhere.

Jenée likes purple.

And a nice church.

More purple ...

I dig a flowering archway.

Colorful places ...

... Another one

And tavernas with great views.

Here's a view of the Chora on the way out. It's decided, we are coming back tonight for dinner.

Now we tour more of the island. Here is a view over the new capital city and harbor of Patitíri.

Up the coast we see the harbor of Seni Vala. We sailed south past here yesterday (left to right).

We stop by the harbor to check it out, too small for us. This bike is just right for Jenée. It's a Honda!

Further up the coast we come to our destination of Ay Demetriou (Point Jimmy). Okay, James Point. That sailboat you see was us yesterday heading south.

Beautiful little beach. We're going swimming!

We eat lunch at this little beach front taverna.

Then I immediately go to sleep, while smiling. I smile when I sleep.

Am I dreaming? I wake up to a vision.

Jenée suggests we walk down the end of the beach to the windy point. What a great idea, I say. Ok, I'm lying.

But once down there, it ain't so bad. Matter of fact, I can't believe how comfortable it is with all this wind. I also can't believe how well Jenée bathing suit matches the colors in the water. Remarkable!

Interesting beach umbrellas, made of dead stuff.

Where were we? Oh yes, we came tearing down that channel yesterday at 7.5 - 8.0 knots.

Enough of the damn rocks darling? Gosh Jenée, your hair looks perfect!

After the beach we head back south as Jenée wants to check out some of the coves we missed on the way up. There were many.

This was a particularly photographic one.

Here is the associated beach.

Hey there is Jim, he must be; A) Checking local vegetation, B) Inspecting rare island beetles C) Watering the grass. Just kidding, there was no grass. That wife of mine is a hoot!

Oh hey here is funny Jenée earlier today, all by herself in the water, she must be; A) Inspecting local marine life, B).... Let's move on shall we?

Another pretty cove.

Back home, Jungle barely averts disaster. Not really.

It's dinner time and we are back on top of the Chora. Jenée searched and searched and picked out this family restaurant at the very top of the hill. Quite a view.

An even better view.

This old place next door caught my eye. What a view. Could use a little landscaping.

Here is a natural view of the setting sun.

A wonderful dinner. Kali Nikta. (Good night)
